Born and raised in the United States, I grew up in upstate New York. Both my parents worked in public schools; my father as a teacher, and my mother as a school nurse. Education was always given great importance in my family, and it seemed natural for me to carry on the family tradition. My brother Jason, is also a teacher and still resides in New York.
My passion for teaching began during my sacramental studies at our local parish. While studying to be confirmed, I was asked by the parish priest to help a young parishioner with special needs go through the programme. I developed a wonderful relationship with the boy, and really enjoyed helping him through his sacramental journey. I knew then that I wanted to keep having the feelings that teaching gave me and that helping others achieve was a great thing. I continued through high school where I had a very special English teacher who helped develop in me a passion for literature. It is there where my two loves would eventually come together and lead me to university where I would study teaching English.
After finishing my Masters, I soon found myself in a classroom of my own. I loved it from the very beginning, and have loved it ever since.
I have been married for over 10 years, and have two beautiful children. We moved to New Zealand from New York in 2008 when our first child was born. We wanted her to have a quiet and safe upbringing that New Zealand could provide. We have been here ever since.
